Editor's Pick - Lindsay Schallon's Fall Wish List
(Photo via Net-a-Porter)
Confession: I don't do well with summer style.
While all my friends are out frolicking beneath the blazing sun in shocking-bright frocks, pretty pastels, and wedge sandals, I'm secretly wishing I could curl up in an oversized sweater, throw on a pair of jeans and slip into a comfy pair of boots.
Mysterious fall shades—rich burgundy, saturated army green, and dark-as-night black—always seem to be the ones that catch my eye. I blame this partially on the fact that in my previous life as a retail worker (read: before moving to New York) I was forbidden from wearing anything black. Seriously, I went nearly six years without ever wearing it!
As much as I'm still a prep at heart—all those plaid button-downs, well-pressed polos, and boat shoes in every color combo still sit in my closet—this fall, I'm hoping to trade in my styles of yesteryear and fill my wardrobe with more sophisticated staples. Ladylike, minimalist, and everlasting being key. With a few fun extras, of course!
Knowing this, my fall lust list probably won't come much of a surprise to you. Take a look at what I'm crushing for and let me know if any of these top your list, too!
DKNY Cape Dress: This obsession comes courtesy of DKNY PR Girl's incessant tweeting about this superwoman-worthy frock (publicity job, well done). One part superhero, two parts chic—I'm dying to suit up in this season's new lace iteration. The dress is also that transitional length that works just as well with tights once the weather gets chilly.
Christopher Kane Brocade Dress: Decadent textures and decorative designs made appearances on the Ralph Lauren, Marni, and Marchesa fall runways. But it was this brooding Christopher Kane dress, above right, that gave me chills. The sleek silhouette makes it work-appropriate, and I can so see myself jazzing it up for a night on the town.
Burberry Prorsum Cashmere Sweater: When it's cold outside—I basically live in cashmere. And the bigger the sweater, the better. So you can only imagine the internal freakout I had over this so-insanely-adorable-I'd-never-ever-want to-take-it-off owl knit. Plus, animal-embellished sweaters are totally on-trend right now. (Isn't that right, Danica Lo?)
J Brand's Super-Skinny Leather Pants: My favorite thing about fall is that there's so much room to experiment with texture. In the spring and summer, you're focused on finding ultra-airy barely-there fabrics in order to avoid, well, looking like a sweaty mess. And in winter you just want to stay practical and warm. Enter fall—the perfect season for this pair of buttery leather pants. I must.
Mulberry Bayswater Bag: At $1,350 this is a mah-jor investment piece—but hey, this is, after all, a wish list. As a young twenty-something trying to embrace a more grown-up aesthetic, I love this satchel because it reads mature without looking like it's trying too hard. The captivating berry hue—"oxblood" aka the new "it" color—though, is what makes this Mulberry magnificence so right now.
DKNY Animal-Print Faux-Fur Jacket: I've been searching long and hard for a statement jacket to give my minimalist ensembles some added oomph—and this animal-print coat is so absolutely that! It's so warm and toasty, not mention sassy. Plus, the cropped cut keeps this fluffy topper from making you look, well, fluffy, like so many other furry pieces out there. (Not that I know this from experience or anything...)
Nicholas Kirkwood Suede and Glitter Loafers: Last but certainly not least, are these ultra-fun, ultra-comfy smoking slippers from Nicholas Kirkwood. Again, when your look is more basic—you get to have a whole lot more fun with the extras! The rich cobalt hue. The adorable zigzag design. And the glitter, oh the glitter! I promise you'll see me in these soon.
Which of these picks do you like best? And what would you choose to top your fall wish list? Let me know in the comments!
