(Bauer Griffin) Olivia Palermo at the Valentino fall 2012 show in ParisRemember back in the day, when
Olivia Palermo was just another run-of-the-mill New York socialite? When she got repeatedly and publicly
Mean-Girl-ed by some of New York's "top-tier" socials back in 2007? How she never made it past #16 on the now-defunct SocialiteRank.com?
Remember when Olivia Palermo first started to get really,
truly famous? Yes, it was when she landed a plum role on MTV's
The Hills spin-off reality show
The City—where she was guffawed at by power publicist Kelly Cutrone and pitted against
Whitney Port in the PR office at
Elle.
Well, in an interview with the New York Post, Palermo scoffs at all that and calls her time on reality television "ridiculous."
"I think from the beginning of my career, being on television—that was completely, it was just ridiculous, it was not me at all," she
told the paper.
According to today's
Page Six, "When asked directly about her time on MTV's
The City... Palermo bristled and looked to her rep for guidance. 'Um... It's a learning experience... That's how I always put it. I'm very happy in the career I'm in now, and that's the end of the matter.'"
Things we don't understand: biting the hand that feeds you. Sure, Palermo played a hateful character on
The City—everyone knows that. But to pretend she's above reality television when that's what made her a household name?
What do you think about Palermo's declarations? Let's discuss. Tell us in the comments section, below.
