Kate Middleton Rented This Hat in 2010 and it Just Sold at Auction for $5,835

(Pacific Coast News) Kate Middleton wears the rented Aurora hat to a friend's wedding in October 2010

Before Kate Middleton married Prince William—and before Prince Charles started footing the bill for her wardrobe—she was a girl, just like us, who wanted nice things to wear but didn't want to spend a fortune. So, like so many women these days, she rented stuff—specifically, hats.

According to a story in the Telegraph, before she was the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate used to rent her hats from a shop called Get Ahead Hats in Reading. A few of Kate's old rentals were recently auctioned off for charity—this Aurora-brand hat, which Kate wore to a friend's wedding right before she and Wills announced their engagement, fetched more than $5,800 in the auction!

How much would you pay for a piece of Kate Middleton memorabilia? Or any celebrity memorabilia for that matter?
