Super-Easy DIY: Miu Miu-Inspired Glitter Sneakers for Under $50, Part 2

(StyleBistro)

Last week, we brought you super-easy Miu Miu-inspired glitter platforms for under $50. Well, with all the glitter on hand, why stop at the platforms? For those days you want to wear flats, but still want to make a statement, we're bringing you Miu Miu-inspired glitter sneakers, also for under $50.

Check out these sneakers from the brand's fall 2012 collection:

What you will need:

(StyleBistro)

First, you'll need a canvas sneaker. We bought Airwalk's Kicks Lo Sparkle ($22.99) at Payless. You will also need fabric glue that dries clear, silver glitter, a paper plate, and a small to medium-sized paint brush.

1. Pour some glue onto a paper plate.

                                                    (StyleBistro)

You don't want to apply the glue directly onto the shoe, because it won't spread evenly. And since the sneaker is canvas, it's so lightweight too much glue will weigh it down. Make sure you have a paper plate (and a lot of paper towels! We promise you, the glitter will get everywhere) to keep the glue off of whatever surface you're working on. It will also work as a great palette for your paint brush!

2. Dip the brush in glue and start to paint one side of the sneaker.

You'll want to tackle painting glue (and then pouring glitter) onto sneaker by side, maybe even by section (leave the tongue for last). First, the glue will dry before you put the glitter on it if you try to tackle the entire sneaker at once, second of all, you want to make sure you don't glop on too much. You want the coat of glue to be even, so once the glitter is on it doesn't drip down.

3. Pour glitter onto the section you just glued.

Don't be afraid to dump a lot more glitter than you think is necessary. And make sure you pour it over the plate or a thick paper towel! Unless you want to bedazzle your work table...

As each section is finished make sure to gently shake off excess glitter.

4. Continue to glue glitter on each side of the sneaker, except the tongue.

(StyleBistro)

Like everything else, turn the sneaker over and dump the excess glitter when you're done.

5. Pull the tongue up and begin to glue it.

(StyleBistro)

It's obviously easier to cover the entire tongue if it's pulled as far out of the sneaker as possible.

6. Pour glitter onto the tongue and shake off the excess.

Just like everything else, you'll want to shake off the extra glitter.

7. Re-glue and glitter any uneven sections.

If some parts of the shoe aren't fully glittered, or the glitter didn't stick well, feel free to re-glue and glitter. Just wait until the rest of the shoe is dry!

Now, for the studs...
(StyleBistro)

Here's the deal with studding the toe. You need to make sure you have a rhinestone with a flat back. You also want one that's round and metallic but not necessarily too shiny. You'll also want to pick one up that's a medium to small size, since on these Miu Miu sneaks there are a ton embellishing the toe.

Since the toe isn't flat, and it's made of rubber, you'll either need Krazy Glue or a hot glue gun. If you use crazy glue, we suggest using something to move the studs around like a plastic knife so you don't end up permanently gluing rhinestones to your face (unless that's your thing, in which case, go ahead).

Evenly line up the studs along the toe, we did nine in the back, then eight, and one less each row until we got to the three at the tip. Once they're in place, let them dry and you're done!

We really love our new glittery sneakers. Here's the finished product!
