Tommy Hilfiger consults with an 'Idol' contestant (Fox). American Idol's quest for world domination has gotten a whole lot more fashionable.
The reality singing competition, which already rules the ratings and airwaves, has launched its own clothing line called "Authentic Icon." The line, which debuted late last month, is sold exclusively at Kohl's stores and features separates for young men and women. Stand out items include a pair of skinny red and black striped jeans, a flirty white chiffon dress embellished with grommets, and a sequined boatneck "rebel top."
The Authentic Icon collection will be available through June (when Idol crowns its Season 11 winner) and will be worn by contestants during episodes. Fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger has also been brought onto the show as an "image advisor."
“It was a natural extension to partner on a line of American Idol-inspired apparel that captures the essence of our rich music, style and performance heritage,” David Luner of FreemantleMedia Enterprises (Idol’s production company) said in a statement. Rick Darling, president of LF USA (which helped to create the clothing items) added, “The American Idol collection will build upon the powerful influence of music and entertainment on today’s fashion-conscious consumers.”
