Azzedine Alaïa Couture Fall 2011 (Imax Tree)
Azzedine Alaïa Couture Fall '11
For his first show in eight years,
Azzedine Alaïa thrived on his famous fit-and-flare silhouette, tiered ruffles and the weighted fabrics he (and his clientele) so adore.
The show started out light with frothy gray fur alongside forest green and egg-shell felted wool coats. Progressively Alaïa drew us in deeper with dark maroons and black patent alligator embossing.
A true lover of countering textures, the designer paired supple velvet (a couture favorite this season) with shining satin and luxe feather trims. He made a skirtsuit of burgundy crocodile and created flouncy scalloped ruffles out of crisp Italian wool. Elfin petal hems ran rampant, creating a surreal feel to Alaïa's long-awaited and much missed runway show.
