(Getty Images) Lauren Conrad's 10 must-have workwear pieces
Lauren Conrad knows a thing or two about working. After all, this former reality star does manage to run an entire fashion empire, a wildly popular beauty website and a bestselling book series—all at the same time. The crazy part? She always looks insanely chic during all of it. (Yes, we’re a bit jealous).
So when we had the chance to catch up with the Hollywood fashionista on her recent book tour for Infamous, we decided to get the real scoop. How does she always look so polished? Hint: She starts with the basics.
StyleBistro: What are the 10 work-appropriate items every girl absolutely needs in her closet this season?
Lauren Conrad: A white button down shirt, black cropped trousers, black pumps, a neutral sweater, simple flats, a neutral skirt that hits right above the knee (in whatever silhouette flatters your figure), a chic, but basic blazer, black tights, a black leather tote and a colored silk crepe top. They may seem basic, but these ten pieces are easy to wear in almost any work environment.
Clockwise from top left: “Janice” pullover, $290 at Rag & Bone; Silk flutter top, $70 at J. Crew; “Slim Signature” shirt, $204 at Equipment; Jersey blazer, $80 at Mango; “Saffiano” city tote, $298 at Coach; Knee length skirt, $50 at Topshop; “Masson” pants, $205 at AllSaints; “Ashley” ballet flats, $98 at Banana Republic; Platform High Heels, $60 at LC Lauren Conrad for Kohls
SB: Great list! If you were getting dressed, what three outfits would you create with the above items?
LC: The best thing about these 10 basic pieces is that they are super easy to mix-and-match. Pair a sweater and a skirt with flats for a clean and preppy look. For a more formal option, wear a white-button down blouse with black pants and pumps. A colored silk crepe top looks great with a skirt, blazer and pumps!
SB: And do you normally wear outfits like this when you’re in your LA-based office?
LC: Skirts and dresses are my go-to for looking polished and put-together. My work environment is pretty casual, so I mix professional staples like the 10 pieces I mentioned with other fun items and accessories!
SB: Okay, spill—What should you never wear to work? Like, ever.
LC: Hats! Fedoras are fine for the weekend, but not appropriate office-wear. Also, avoid anything shiny other than jewelry. Sequins or rhinestones are distracting in an office environment.
And there you have it! Follow Lauren’s tips, and you’re sure to be the most fashionable one in your office.
