Carla Gugino, Cobie Smulders, Elisabeth Moss, Tina Fey (Getty)After fawning over last night's plethora of gorgeous Emmy Gowns, we saw quite a few trends in eveningwear start to form. And since we believe it's never too early (or presumptuous) to plan for your next formal gathering, take note of these promise-to-impress fashion statements. From the hottest hues to the latest want-to-touch textures, here are the top dress themes from the fab fete.
Rosci Diaz, Maria Menounos, and Tina Fey all had the same idea when they slipped on their curve-hugging royal blue gowns. There's no better color to standout against a red carpet.
2. Heavenly Textures
From Sadrine Holt's airy chiffon layer to Kerry Wasington's decadent appliqued gown and Claire Danes' mermaid princess number, the red carpet was a haven for angelic textures.
It looks like the black-and-white trend isn't going anywhere soon! In fact, it's merely been amped up by the glamour of Elisabeth Moss, Julianna Margulies, and Anna Gunn.
4. Candy Colors
Zooey Deschanel, Jessica Pare, and Giuliana Rancic brought loads of sweetness to the red carpet in candy blue—note the color works wonders on everything from a column dress to a ball gown.
5. Dramatic Black
Whether you're a Cat Deeley, Vera Farmiga, or Christina Hendricks—going for sexy, avant-garde, or retro glamour—black will never do you wrong.
6. Petal Pink
There to match the ice blue evening attire were the gals in pale pink. Cobie Smulders chose a shiny ice taffeta dress, Julie Bowen looked like a cupcake in her ruffled creation, and January Jones opted for a pale lace number.
7. Fierce Red
General rule, if Sofia Vergara wears it, it's hot. Case in point: This fool-proof fiery red also seen on Carla Gugino and Kelly Osbourne.
8. Goth Lace
Aubrey Plaza, Amanda Peet, and Lena Heady all chose unique black lace pieces with varying amounts of sheerness. The result? A modern romantic goth effect.
