Well, the big night is here, and whether you're planning to ring in 2014 with friends, family, or even to host a little soirée at home, if you're anything like the beauty junkies here at StyleBistro, you've been planning your makeup look for weeks. And what better night than New Year's Eve to bring out that Old Hollywood glamour? Clearly, this isn't a look that most of us can master on a daily basis. But for special occasion inspiration, nobody does retro-inspired beauty better than Dita Von Teese. Let's break down the essentials of the glam burlesque icon's screen siren makeup, so we can replicate the look for tonight.

Alabaster Skin
A smooth, glowing face is the starting point for Dita's '40s-inspired makeup. Apply your favorite foundation (one as close to your skin tone––or a teensy bit lighter–– as you can find) extra carefully, to create a natural-looking base. If you're a fan of powder, a nice, gentle dusting of mineral powder (loose or pressed) can help your skin stay even-looking and flawless all night. If you choose to go for blush, opt for a rosy or natural looking tone, lightly applied to the apples of your cheeks for that retro effect.

Matte Red Lipstick
Dita's matte lips are always a main attraction. Take a cue from this vixen and skip the lip gloss, opting instead for your favorite red lipstick and matching liner (as pictured above). Don't forget to blot!

Strong Brows and Lashes
With such a prominent lip, you don't want to overdose on eyeshadow. Instead, focus on your lashes and brows. If you're a false eyelash kind of gal, tonight is the night to take those babies for a spin. (Not sure how to rock the falsies? Check out these tips.) Otherwise, a great black mascara (apply more heavily on your top lashes than bottoms) plus eyelash curler will do the trick. If you're feeling ambitious, gently apply dark eyeliner (pencil or liquid) to your top lid only, focusing on the outer edge of the lid to create an uplifting, mini-wing effect.

As for the brows, hopefully you're starting with the basic shape that's right for your face. Then, use a brush and powder to ever-so-delicately darken your natural assets. Don't draw with the brush, but rather, gently pat just a trace of powder on your brows, beginning at the inner corner and moving outwards towards the arch. Pencil can create a harsh effect, so with such a dramatic makeup look, better to play it safe and choose to darken with a softer, more subtle powder. Very important: don't overdo it on the brow darkening, this is one area where just a little help goes a long way.

Finally, have fun, and let your inner femme fatale emerge.
