A Lesson on Mastering Blue Eye Shadow
The '80s were a magical time. The Breakfast Club, big hair, power suits, and, of course, blue eye shadow. While some of those things we'd rather forget, blue eye shadow (and The Breakfast Club) should not—we repeat, NOT—be included in that group.
When worn correctly, a bold blue can look fierce, dramatic, and all around stunning on every skin tone. The vibrant trend has been seen on some of the hottest runways and on Hollywood A-listers alike. Most recently, we spotted the look on Keri Russell.

Russell lined her lids with a darker blue pencil then applied a soft metallic shade to the base of the lid for a cool, gradient effect that was anything but '80s nostalgia.
Whether you're simply lining the lid with a blue pencil, swiping on color all over, or both like Russell, the key to avoiding the over-the-top electric blue look (think Cyndi Lauper) is to keep the rest of your look minimal, minimal, minimal. That means no crazy pink blush, no look-at-me red lips, none of that. Keep the rest of your face fresh and simple and let the blue hue take center stage.
Ready to take the blue eye shadow plunge? Good! From punchy shadows to robust liners, we've rounded up our top tools for riding the blue wave.
