Atlantic City Journal - Day 2: Moments of Sublime Beauty, Buffet Corn Nuggets, and One Iconic AC Dining Experience
(Danica Lo / StyleBistro) The sunset over the boardwalk
I think one of the things I like most about Atlantic City is one thing that's often forgotten or taken for granted. Sure, there are tons of amazing casinos, delicious restaurants, great shows, drinks, and clubs. But my favorite thing about Atlantic City is the ocean and its beach.
The last few times I've been out here, I've made sure to carve out some time to spend just hanging out on the beach. It's been really cold the last couple of days, so I haven't had a chance to do that, but I'm hoping it'll be warmer today (it's supposed to hit 70!). Anyway, to get that ocean feeling I love so much, I took a stroll through Caesar's—as close as I could get to One Atlantic, the resort casino's on-top-of-the-ocean venue (literally, it's a glass building, and when you look out, you're on top of the Atlantic Ocean—I once went there for an event in a lightning storm and it was mindblowingly beautiful) to watch the sunset over the boardwalk, above.
Speaking of the boardwalk, it's gorgeous—even in its off-season -
Nothing beats the cute and kitschy stores—and their names! Peanut World!
Of course, I'm also a huge fan of Atlantic City's mega-casinos—like Caesar's, which is one of my Vegas faves too -
And the Golden Nugget, which I visited yesterday (I'm also a huge fan of its downtown Vegas cousin). Did you know that Ronnie Wood has an art gallery at the Atlantic City Golden Nugget? They sell his paintings and even some knick-knacks, like T-shirts and other souvenirs. It's by appointment only, so I couldn't go inside, but it's fascinating!
And here's what we ate on Day 2.
We didn't eat at the White House, which is SUPER FAMOUS for its subs—but we did walk past on our way to dinner. It's so iconic, and I need to make sure I make it over there for lunch some time this summer:
At lunch, Lindsay and I tried out another Vegas buffet—at the Golden Nugget, where I ate corn nuggets (they're golden, right?). Probably a mistake, but I swear, after five cheat days, I'm going to get back on track!
And dinner was at the iconic Angelo's Fairmount Tavern, just a few blocks from the Boardwalk, where we had pasta, seafood, some chianti for the girls (and some mineral water for me).
We're busy assembling some fun Atlantic City itineraries and round-ups this week, so look for them starting today and tomorrow! In the meantime, check out more of our personal editor's Atlantic City journals right here at our Atlantic City page.
